The Meaning and Coping Course of Schizophrenia to the Family

Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to describe how family members respond and cope their mentally ill relatives based on the personal and clinical longitudinal experience with families.
The authors overview the factors affecting family response and describe the ways which families respond to mental illness through time. This process is very complex due to changes in the manifestations of illness such as unpredictibility of
symptom
and
course, families' misunderstanding and confusion, and social stigma.
The process is usually characterized by diversity and fluidity of attitude within and between family members, by dramatic forward strides in understanding and equally dramatic reversals. Families faced with unremitting, prolonged, or fluctuating
levels
of iformity in an affected member eventually experience a collapse of therapeutic optimism and the sorrow of letting go of the dreams of unattainable futures.
The professionals should understand and accept their sorrow and frustration to collaborate therapeutic triangle which comprise patient, family and professionals.
